United Kingdom Travel Illustration

Project Dates

When I visited the United Kingdom for the first time in 2013, I went all over England and Scotland, visiting many friends and exploring many different cities. These are just some of my adventures from my visit, with pages from my original journals, as well as the pages from the zine I created this year, which reimagined or incorporated the original sketches, comics and words into new digital art.

Overview

Whenever I travel, I always bring at least one sketchbook or journal with me and fill it with drawings, doodles, random thoughts, sketches of people done in cafes while I sit sipping a Pimm’s, as it were. Making this art, keeping these journals and sketchbooks, it’s how I connect with a place when I travel, making memories that feel stronger and deeper because of the creative process involved with putting pen to paper.

My trip involved visiting many different places all over England and Scotland, including London, Newcastle, Liverpool, Edinburgh and the Outer Hebrides. Museums are always an essential part of any trip for me and that is evident in these pages, capturing moments from so many brilliant exhibits and galleries I was lucky enough to visit.

A few of the details...

While visiting London, I decided to take the Thames Clipper to Greenwich. After traveling along the Thames, I arrived in Greenwich Park by ferry to explore the Royal Observatory and watched a gorgeous sunset over the river.

Journals from my travels in 2013 served as the basis for new work this year. Collected into a zine about my travels in the UK, featuring full color digital artwork, bringing new life old illustrations digitally, along with hand lettered journal entries and photos from my trip.
