Lionel Frogby is a little frog with big dreams who started his life as a little figure I sculpted out of clay and then walked on to the pages of a mini-comic. Lionel’s adventures are only just beginning, with more to come.

Overview

I wanted to experiment with creating a comic out of a single piece of paper, a fold-up comic, as an exercise in creating something that size, challenging myself to make a comic in that specific format. I decided to make the comic about Frogby, seeing how much people seemed to respond to him whenever I shared my Frogby illustrations with them. People seem to love Frogby and it makes me so happy because I love that little frog, too. When I was making him out of clay, I was just trying to think of something I could easily sculpt as a beginner and decided on making a little frog dude.

I first described Frogby as having vibes of like Gumby’s nephew or something and I think that’s probably the best description, still. He’s just a cool little frog who loves seeing the world.

I hope you’ll take a look at the mini-comic, it’s available to download and print your own copy on itch.

Say hello to Frogby, a character I created after first sculpting him out of clay, then. turning him into an illustration and short comic and I’m working on longer sequential comics with Frogby, too.
