An experimental diary comic about the summer I tried to grow tomatoes in my kitchen and the various hijinx that occurred when I was a little bit too successful.

Overview

Fried Zine Tomato is an experimental diary comic about the summer that I attempted to grow tomatoes for the first time. I bought four starter plants from the local market that already had fruit on them, so at the very least, I would have kept those tomatoes alive, even if it didn’t quite count as growing them myself. I did not expect to keep the tomato plants alive, especially with several trips out of town, but somehow they managed to not only survive but thrive and oops, now my kitchen is overgrown with tomato plants.

A few of the details...

Squares in various shades of tomato (red, orange, yellow, green and varying gradients in between) and illustration of ripe red tomatoes
A page from Fried Zine Tomato, featuring a watercolor swatch page of all of the shades of tomato I was painting in my sketchbook.
